I am responding to the first call. I have a very similar situation with my daughter. I am estranged from her and my grandchildren, one who was just born 2 weeks ago. I appreciate the advice that Steve, Dave and Mylan gave and I can relate to the pain. What helps me get through this trying time is to ask God for help every morning and then thank him at night for getting me through this one day at a time. I pray constantly and ask others to pray.

My daughter is very explosive, cruel, vindictive and purposely hurtful. I have gone to Alanon weekly sometimes daily since 1999 so I can separate her disease of stinking thinking from her and not take it personally. Her father was a very sick alcoholic who never got recovery and died of liver failure. I have learned that behavior is inherited, she is her father’s daughter. She knows I go to a 12 step program and deeply resents me for it. It is the only way I have been able to live peacefully.

I suggest you find an alanon meeting and attend regularly. You will find others who share your story. Whether or not you daughter is drinking, it is sick behavior and alaonon will give you tools on how to detach and have inner peace. I am now volunteering at my church in a new moms ministry and I get to help and hold babies! How good is that! Even though they are not my grandchildren, I am helping the moms and I get that wonderful feeling of bliss holding a baby.

You will get through this with God’s help. I am not chasing my daughter to set my self up for abuse. I am turning it over to God and trust in His power to heal in time. God bless you!
