Hi. I am a fan of New Life and have been since it was Minworth-Meyer Clinic (spelling.) I am writing today after hearing the advice given to the caller about her sister. I wish that the team had said something like – “we can’t fully understand how your much the connection to Afrocentric culture means to your sister and maybe we can direct you to a Christian counselor who has a greater understanding who can help.” I have found that there are times when people who are well meaning and even Christians, but who are “Anglo” in culture just don’t understand.
Just as I wouldn’t try to navigate a cultural dynamic for a person living in Japan, the advice ti read Uncle Tom’s cabin – was so – not helpful that I had to write. This phenomenon is causing we to consider changing careers. Counseling has a cultural and sometimes ethnic element that gets lost in the translation and maybe I can help.
I do appreciate your hearts to help.
