To the woman who has a child with autism, have you tried ABS or verbal behavior? I encouraged you to have a board certified behavior anylste into your home. These are different than behavior specialist which in some states anyone can say they are a behavior specialist. Howver board certified behavior analyst are certified by a national board and have strict guidelines and an exam that has to be passed. There are also assistant board certified behavior analysts with not as strong requiremnnts who which is the first step many behavior analyst acquire first. Many school districts are now including home programs as part of the individualized educational program. Are they any autism society groups in your area? They could offer support for you and some recommendations as to getting a good home program to come in your home. They could also put you in contact with an advocate that might even be free to help you get the support you need. Hopefully you can work with the school district to get this going. It will be cheaper for them to try this first then paying for an educational program at a residential facility., which is required in my home state by the local school district.
Please let me know if I can be of any more help to you. I am a teacher of children children with autism in a small private school in the northeast that utilizes these approaches and see what a difference they can make.
