2027 Will Need More Than Answers: An Open Letter from Becky Brown

Dear Friends,

Every December, someone says the year ahead will be unlike any other. I’ve learned to be a little skeptical. But as I look toward 2027, I don’t think it’s an exaggeration.

We are more connected than any generation in history, and lonelier than ever. Artificial intelligence is changing where we turn for comfort, and more people are telling a machine what they’ve never told another human being. The world feels unsteady. And underneath it all is a growing confusion about what matters, and who matters.

Those pressures push us back to the oldest questions there are. What does it mean to be alive? To be known? To love, and to be loved well? This is the world New Life Ministries lives in. It is also exactly why we exist.

Why New Life, Why Now

I often say I am New Life’s biggest fan, because I have seen what God does through this ministry: lives changed, marriages restored, families healed. For almost four decades, New Life has been a place to bring the hardest questions and find biblical wisdom, clinical insight, and compassionate direction.

The need hasn’t eased. Last year, our Resource Center answered 17,378 calls. Another 443 men and women came to workshops like Every Man’s Battle, Restore, and Intimacy in Marriage, and 720 New Life Recovery Groups met across the U.S. and around the world.

They come carrying estrangement between parents and adult children, cultural conversations that require both grace and truth, broken relationships, addiction, and the deeper struggles that keep them from freedom. That’s why I believe recovery is about more than addiction. It is about healing and transformation in every area of life.

So many people are turning to AI for some kind of stability right now, and I understand why. AI is a tool, and an exceptional one. But it is no replacement for a person, and we are finding that out mostly the hard way. A machine can generate an answer. It cannot sit with you in your grief, pray with you, or tell you the truth in love because it actually cares what happens to you.

So let me say it plainly: New Life is, and always will be, better than that. Not because we’re smarter than a machine, but because we’ve seen what happens when someone encounters God through a counselor who listens, a group that won’t let them walk alone, or a voice on the radio telling their own story. For nearly 40 years, New Life LIVE has offered honest answers grounded in Scripture and clinical expertise, through a person who listens before speaking. No algorithm can do that.

Why I Won’t Settle

What keeps me up at night is a verse. In Jeremiah 6:14, God grieves over those who “offer superficial treatments for my people’s mortal wound” (NLT). That is the temptation of our moment: quick comfort for deep wounds. The man carrying shame he has never spoken aloud, the mother who hasn’t heard from her son in years. They deserve more than that, and New Life will not settle for less.

What puts wind in my sails is seeing God at work. Not long ago, a woman turned on the radio to fill the silence in a marriage she thought was over. She heard a caller describe her own story. The next morning she asked her husband, “Before we call a lawyer, can we call them?” Today they are rebuilding, together.

If New Life has helped you or someone you love, would you consider paying that hope forward? There are people listening today whose names we may never know and whose stories we may never hear this side of heaven. But through your generosity, you can help ensure they continue to hear a message of truth, healing, and hope in Christ. The impact of your gift may reach far beyond what you will ever see.

This season, there is a special opportunity to do just that. Through December 31, our $500,000 Year-End Matching Gift Challenge will double every dollar given. Whatever you’re able to give will go twice as far for someone who needs more than an answer.

Thank you for being part of this story. I can’t wait to see what God does next.

With hope and gratitude,

Becky Brown, President New Life
