Building Character

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10

Feelings of inadequacy can exist even in highly gifted people. That combination often leads to unhealthy patterns—avoiding discipline, resisting repentance, and feeling a constant need to perform in order to earn approval.

Natural talent and early success can create the illusion that discipline and character are unnecessary. Someone may excel in athletics, academics, music, leadership, or other areas with little effort, leading others to expect great things. Yet talent alone is not enough to sustain long-term success.

True success is built on discipline and character. Those qualities are cultivated through a life grounded in Scripture—in the wisdom of the Old Testament, the life and teachings of Christ, and the example of the early church in the New Testament. A life rooted in God’s Word produces the discipline and character needed to honor Him and thrive over the long term.

Character, not circumstance, makes the person. – Booker T. Washington
