“I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers.” — Philemon 1:4 (ESV)
What if you went an entire day without thanking God for anything?
You might finish your to-do list, answer emails, make dinner, and handle your responsibilities. But how many blessings would you overlook along the way?
We often reserve gratitude for special occasions. We pray before meals, give thanks on Sundays, and celebrate Thanksgiving once a year.
But what if gratitude became part of everyday life?
Scripture reminds us that thankfulness isn’t meant to be occasional. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Paul writes, “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (ESV).
We can thank God for more than the big blessings. We can thank Him for another morning, a friend’s encouragement, a beautiful sunset, or the strength to get through a difficult day.
Gratitude changes what we notice.
Paul modeled this kind of thankfulness. In Philemon 1:4, he writes, “I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers” (ESV). He expressed gratitude for the people God had placed in his life rather than taking them for granted.
We can do the same.
You don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving to appreciate the people you love or recognize God’s goodness. You can thank Him while driving to work, preparing dinner, or talking with a friend.
Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring your struggles. It means remembering that your struggles aren’t the whole story. Even during difficult seasons, you can look for reminders of God’s presence and faithfulness.
The more you notice God’s goodness in everyday life, the more reasons you’ll find to give thanks.
Today’s Challenge: Pause three times today to thank God for something you might normally overlook. Thank Him for a person, a moment, or a simple blessing. Then tell someone how much you appreciate them.
Don’t wait for Thanksgiving to cultivate a thankful heart.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, open my eyes to Your goodness in both the big moments and the small ones. Help me appreciate the people You’ve placed in my life and live with a grateful heart every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
