Focus On Being

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. – Romans 12:10

Breaking free from the idea that “you are what you do” starts with understanding that your true identity is found in Jesus Christ—not in your roles, performance, or achievements. When that truth begins to settle in, it changes the way you relate to others. People become more than what they do; they become individuals to know, care for, and connect with on a deeper level. This kind of shift often requires slowing down, loosening the grip on full schedules, and making room for more meaningful relationships.

One way this can take shape is through small groups that intentionally focus less on accomplishments and more on personal experiences, thoughts, and feelings. In these spaces, people are encouraged to move beyond surface-level conversations and begin sharing more honestly. Over time, this helps peel back layers and creates room for genuine encouragement, support, and affirmation—the very things many people need but often hesitate to ask for.

When people feel safe enough to open up, they can share real struggles, deep emotions, and even long-held hurts or unmet needs. In return, others can listen, care, and offer comfort. These kinds of relationships create a place where people can walk through pain, navigate loss, and feel truly seen and supported.

While this kind of community may not be common, it shows just how powerful it can be when relationships are built on authenticity, emotional honesty, and an identity rooted in Christ rather than in what we do.

Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, to all the people you can. – John Wesley
